Te heinga The opportunity We are seeking a permanent full time Animal Control Officer to join our hardworking consents and regulatory team. As an Animal Control Officer, you will be responsible for administering the Dog Control Act and other bylaws designed to ensure the safety and welfare of animals and people in the District.
The focus of this role is to perform enforcement activities and address non-compliance appropriately as it identified. This role does require the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Respond to and investigate all complaints regarding animal control and carry out patrols to ensure animal owners comply with bylaws and regulations. Compilation of files and records to a standard as may be required for prosecution purposes.
Liaise with dog owners and the general public visiting the pound and ensure the welfare of all dogs held at the pound. Actively ensure that legislative requirements and Council policies and procedures are fulfilled, particularly in relation to all key relevant legislation. Perform education-related activities for the community in relation to dealing with animals, such as dog safety programs as a key preventative strategy.

Attention to detail and a demonstrated track record of being able to follow protocols and procedures. Computer literate. A clean full driver licence is essential.
A positive 'can do' attitude and a good sense of humour. An understanding of relevant legislation and enforcement practices. Experience in handling dogs and stock with the ability to show professionalism, in relation to animals and their owners, in situations of high stress.
