The Animal Services Division serves a regulatory function within the Council ensuring adherence to the legislation concerning dogs and livestock across the Hutt Valley and Wellingtion City. Are you seeking a role where you can make a real difference? About the Role We're looking for an Animal Control Officer to join our team (based in Moa Point Wellington) to provide a safe environment through enforcement and education for dog owners and the community.
This is a regulatory compliance role, where you will enforce the provisions of the Dog Control Act, Impounding Act and Council bylaws throughout the city. This is a great role if you have exceptional communication skills (both verbal and written), be confident in your decisions and be well equipped to negotiate difficult situations and people. In this role your day will be varied.
You'll be investigating complaints, impounding wandering dogs, seizing dogs, and identifying unregistered dogs. You'll also be issuing infringement notices, gather information, report writing, patrolling/surveying dog prohibited areas and dog exercise areas and educating our community. About You You'll have knowledge of the legislation and by-laws we've mentioned, or proven experience in learning legislation quickly.
We are ideally seeking someone who has experience in handling and controlling dogs and stock and ideally preparing evidence for, and attending Court. As you'd expect, you'll need a good level of physical fitness and a current driver's license. You will have knowledge and understand of regulatory control standards and be able to apply this in the context of Animal Control.
