About the role: Reporting to the DCE Strategic and Corporate Services, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will provide strategic leadership of NZQA's financial and procurement services. Specifically, the CFO will lead the financial strategy for NZQA and ensure that day-to-day financial operations and services are delivered effectively, efficiently, and accurately, meeting legislative requirements and the needs of both internal stakeholders, and external stakeholders such as the Treasury, Public Service Commission and Office of the Auditor General.A primary area of focus will be the growth of culture and enablement within the finance team.
The CFO will play a key role in holding and shaping the vision and direction of the finance team through the establishment of contemporary practice. This would include, but not be limited to, further establishment of effective procurement processes, system optimisation and best practice financial systems and processes.This will ensure a skilled and values-led leadership environment that supports all staff; building a reputation for NZQA as an organisation that strongly attracts quality finance professionals in the market.
Primary responsibilities of this position include: Provide leadership and advice to the Board, Chief Executive and Deputy Chief Executives Develop and implement a Unit business plan, ensuring performance targets are met Represent NZQA when engaging with vendors and government agencies (such as Ministry of Education, Treasury, MBIE). Build and lead a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement Mentor and develop finance professionals, promoting career growth within the Unit Pro.
