Due to an internal restructure of our dairy operation for the 2024 season, we are seeking applicants for the position of dairy farm manager to lead the team on one of our two dairy units located 10 kilometers from Taup. Who we are: Opepe Farming Limited Partnership is a subsidiary of the Opepe Farm Trust who act as kaitiaki (guardians) for 4,800 ha of whenua surrounding Lake Taup. The Trust operates two dairy units milking 2,200 cows, a large scale drystock property and substantial forestry investments.
About the role: Te Maru, is a 320 ha effective hectare property peak milking 800 cows and employs five full time staff while Te Mnia is slightly larger at 480 hectares, peak milking 1,200 cows and employing six full time staff. Both properties have in shed feeding and Protrack automation. One herd on each unit is milked once a day and half of the cows are wintered off farm.
Although run as separate properties, the dairy units (and adjacent drystock unit) operate with the culture of one farm, one team pooling resources when and as required. The dairy unit manager is responsible for the day to day management and operation of the farm while working closely with Opepe General Manager.
