If you're passionate about making a positive difference for New Zealanders, working at the Office of the Auditor-General could be your next career move. The Office of the Auditor-General | Te Mana Arotake (the Office) aims to improve trust and confidence in the public sector. The Auditor-General is the statutory auditor of all public organisations, and helps ensure that New Zealand's public sector remains one of the most trusted in the world.

No other organisation, public or private, has the overview of the whole public sector that the Office has. The Office's Sector Performance Group assesses the performance of the public sector. We investigate the challenges public organisations face, make recommendations for improvement, and identify areas of good practice that other organisations can learn from.

Our Data and Analytics team, which is part of the Sector Performance Group, is responsible for developing and advising on data and analytics at the Office. As we continue to expand our capabilities, we're looking for an experienced Data Analyst with a well-developed analytical practice, strong programming skills, and the ability to study and extract insights from diverse datasets. You'll report to the Director Data and Analytics and work closely with the team's Principal and Senior Data Analysts to carry out research and analysis projects that align with and inform the Office's priorities.

You'll be working individually and with colleagues to explore, collect, and analyse data from various internal and external sources. To be successful in this role, you'll have: proven experience in data analysis or related roles; strong analytical practice with the ability to gather useful information from structured and unstructured datasets; proficiency in programming languages (such as SQL, Python, and R) for data manipulation and analysis; experience in designing, building, or improving data processes and working with structured and unstructured data; experience in effectively communicating data insights; enthusiasm for data and analytical technologies; the ability to learn quickly and solve problems; and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ideally, you'll also have a good knowledge of: accounting, auditing, and/or assurance principles and their practical application; how the government operates; and common data concepts like text mining, predictive modelling, and machine learning.

We offer our staff: Learning and development opportunities. Supportive, flexible working. A unique operating environment with Parliament.

Health and well-being benefits. As an organisation, people matter to us, our independence is critical, we act with integrity and courage, and we're here to make a difference. We have a diverse and inclusive team which helps us understand the issues facing the public sector and how these affect the lives of New Zealanders.

We strongly welcome applicants from all backgrounds. If you have any support or access requirements, we enco.
