Electrical / Automation Engineer New Zealand Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of BlueScope, manufactures and markets a range of flat rolled steel products for the building, construction, manufacturing and agricultural sectors. You may know us for our flagship COLORSTEEL brand. We are currently looking for an enthusiastic Electrical/Automation Engineer to join our Casting team.
While reporting to the Casting Maintenance Superintendent your role will be to maximize plant productivity through the upkeep and ongoing automation improvements throughout the steel plant and ancillary equipment. What you will be doing You will be using your engineering knowledge to ensure a safe workplace by following the Electrical Safety Regulations, you will need to be able to analyze equipment failure modes and develop preventative strategies as well as maintaining and improving the various control systems throughout the plant. You will also be developing and implementing a proactive strategy for ageing control equipment.
What you will bring to the role Our ideal candidate will be an energetic self-starter with an uncompromising attitude to safety. You will need to be a logical systems thinker with a natural aptitude for quick learning and getting the job done, along with excellent problem-solving skills and an ability to contribute positively in a team environment. Ideally you will hold a degree in Electrical or Control Systems Engineering and have experience in the following, however our process and plant is unique, and we value attitude as highly as experience.
AC/DC drive systems Root Cause Analysis techniques knowledge of AS: NZS3000 and associated legislation PLC control and communication systems, preferably having had exposure to Modicon and Rockwell control equipment. This is a Monday - Friday position, however, to ensure that operational requirements are met you may be required to work additional hours when and if needed.
