Environmental Educator Part-time Exciting opportunity to connect young people to our marine environment through virtual reality and experiential learning programmes. Ability to inspire kaitiakitanga and educate our rangatahi to care for our marine environment. Work within a young, dynamic team travelling to schools and kura around the Tmaki Makaurau Auckland region.
BLAKE is seeking an Environmental Educator to help us deliver our discovery programmes in the Tmaki Makaurau Auckland region, including NZ-VR, BLAKE Explorers and public events and activations.ABOUT BLAKE BLAKE (formerly the Sir Peter Blake Trust) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to continuing Sir Peter Blakes environmental leadership legacy. Our core purpose is to re-start people caring for the environmentthrough adventure, through participation, through education and through enjoyment.
We do this by providing life-changing experiences and programmes that follow in the footsteps of Sir Peter Blake himself. ABOUT THE ROLE This is a part-time position primarily responsible for supporting and managing delivery of BLAKEs discovery programmes, including NZ-VR, Explorers as well as public events and activations. The role will deliver NZ-VR lessons in schools, as well as undertake necessary administration of the programme.
It will also support and deliver BLAKE Explorers, our newest programme that connects young New Zealanders to the marine environment through experiential learning activities. On occasions, the role will also support and deliver public events and activations undertaken by BLAKE. KEY PROGRAMME RESPONSIBILITIES: Present inspiring and impactful classroom sessions with VR headsets using pre-developed lesson structures on a range of topics.
Further develop teacher and student resources to complement the sessions. Manage equipment including VR headsets and other collateral. Deliver sessions to additional community groups or corporate partners as required.
Deliver BLAKE Explorers in a positive and engaging way, connecting with the students and teachers. Integrate Mori principles and content within the programmes. TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING SKILLS: Ability to captivate and inspire children and teachers through delivery of the NZ-VR programme.
Preferable to have knowledge across a range of environmental / sustainability issues, with a preference for marine ecosystems and the challenges they face. Good team player who can comfortably work alongside others and team-teach. Confident with technology and ability to pick up new technology quickly.
Strong attention to detail, including ability to organise logistics. Ability to work autonomously and manage programmes while being away from head office. Full driver license and access to a car required.
