Environmental Health Officer Due to an internal promotion, we have an opportunity to work for the second largest local council in New Zealand, making an impact in the community in a positive way. As an Environmental Health Officer joining our Food Safety & Environment Health team, you will have a good balance of both office and field-based work.
About the team: Our team at the Council helps manage and monitor various aspects of public health. We ensure the achievement of statutory requirements for Council in the area of Environmental Health working principally with legislation to achieve high quality environmental and food safety outcomes for the wider Christchurch community. A day in the life as an Environmental Health Officer will see you: Conduct food premises inspections to assess hygiene and safety standards.
Investigate foodborne illness outbreaks and ensure compliance with food safety regulations. Educate and advise food business operators on best practices in food safety. Monitoring of Resource Consents Identification, Management and Prevention of Contaminated Sites / Land Evaluation and Management of Health and Housing Issues Noise Control Environmental Investigation, Monitoring and Enforcement Research/Project Manage/Review Environmental Health matters About you: To be considered for this role, you must be a qualified Environmental Health Officer with a qualification or equivalent relevant tertiary qualification in accordance with the Environmental Health Officers Qualifications Regulations 1993.

You will also have: Working knowledge of the legislation enforced by environmental health professionals. Strong organisation skills with the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively Relationship management skills including negotiation and diplomacy to achieve compliance outcomes.
