We are seeking a proactive and motivated isotope hydrogeologist at the mid-career level for a permanent position at the GNS Science Avalon office, Lower Hutt, Wellington.
The role This role involves engaging in both research and consultancy projects, with a focus on noble gas analysis, hydrochemistry, and developing new methodologies for enhanced groundwater resource management. The successful candidate will be involved in groundbreaking work using state-of-the-art equipment like GNSs new noble gas purification line, quadrupole mass spectrometer and Helix MC multicollector mass spectrometer for groundwater research. Responsibilities include designing and implementing groundwater tracer techniques, maintaining laboratory methodologies, and contributing to the Water Dating Laboratory.

About You The ideal candidate will have the following: Essential Ph.
D. in isotope hydrogeology, water chemistry, isotope geochemistry, noble gas mass spectrometry or a related discipline in the groundwater sector Experience working with hydrological and/or noble gas measurements including operation, maintenance and data quality analysis Familiarity working a laboratory with analytical equipment; in particular high-vacuum systems, gas-source mass spectrometry, and gas chromatography A valid full drivers licence Desirable Advanced IT skills in Windows, geo-spatial (ArcGIS) and coding packages (experience using LabVIEW to control scientific equipment is desirable) Experience writing research proposals Experience working in collaboration with stakeholders and end users The position is permanent, full time (38 hours per week) employment and will be based at our site in Avalon, Lower Hutt, Wellington. The salary range for this position is between $104,000 to $133,000 depending on the successful candidates experience.
