Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity The mahi of our Kaiwhina supports our Rautaki Mori by directly supporting whnau to work towards pae ora - m auri ora (healthy babies and children), whnau ora (healthy, confident families), and wai ora (healthy environments and connected environments). Your role is to walk alongside whnau and identify and enhance their strengths as well as supporting self-determined goals. This mahi involves applying mtauranga Mori alongside health promotion, health education, and prevention concepts.
This might involve providing advice which is commonly associated with Whnau whina Plunkets service such as the introduction of solids or supporting breastfeeding for those that chose this path or settling to sleep. The mahi of a Kaiwhina also provides for whnau cultural needs supporting whnau to build connections and confidence in their Moritanga through for instance the introduction of waiata and prkau sessions. Where there is a need Kaiwhina can work with multiple agencies and specialists social workers, food banks, other community groups and our wider Whnau whina services to respond to the needs of our people.
Payrates for Kaiwhina are between $51,376 ($26 per hour) and $61,058 ($30.90) per hour depending on experience. He krero mu | About you This role involves supporting whnau who might be at different stages of their haerenga to incorporate Te Ao Mori principles and values into how they raise their tamariki, this might involve introducing Mori models of health or connecting whnau with local iwi providers and services.
You will be a warm people person who adopts a whakawhanaungatanga approach to building connections. A background in health promotion, working in a Kaupapa Mori or khanga reo setting would be advantageous however we will provide you with the training you need. Above all else you will bring with you a desire to support whnau and the community we serve along with the ability to deliver equitable health outcomes and the skills to link caregivers with the appropriate service.
