Krero m te Tranga | About the Role Based in Environment Canterburys Timaru office, your role will focus on using your customer centred skills to facilitate sustainable farming practises in our region.
Our Ecan southern zone covers an area from the Rangitata River south to the southern edge of the Waitaki River catchment. Our people work and play within this area, in the mountains and the rivers, and proactively support farmers and landowners to improve their environmental management approach across southern Canterbury. We are consultative in nature and work by a partnership approach to inspire community groups, landowners and external stakeholders as they seek to improve land management practices.
We work with industry and other external parties to action new environmental requirements on farm. The role of Land Management Advisor will work primarily with farmers, but also with industry and other external parties to achieve improvements in land management. Youll understand different land uses and how, when managed well, these can play their part in achieving good catchment outcomes.
An understanding of our farming, forestry and horticulture industries is ideal, along with an appreciation of the diversity and geography of the southern zones, from steep slopes to valley floors to urban waterways and industrial catchments will aid your growth in this role. Ideally, your understanding of how to reduce the risk of nutrients and soil sediment entering various waterways; and being prepared to upskill to identify emerging land uses would be highly relevant.
