It holds a unique place in the New Zealand constitutional framework.
Te whiwhinga mahi/The Opportunity The Legal Advisor / Deputy Registrar is responsible for supporting the technical legal leadership of the unit to ensure that claimants to the Waitangi Tribunal can have their claims registered and considered appropriately. Working across the Unit, and supporting the Registrar, the Deputy Registrar will assist in providing legal expertise and advice to staff regarding the registration and handling of claims. If your experience looks a little different from what we have outlined and believe you can bring value to the role, we'd love to hear from you To be successful in the role you will have: A Bachelor of Law degree and eligible to hold a practicing certificate is a minimum requirement. Well-developed negotiation, organisational and planning skills A solid understanding of Tribunal jurisprudence An ability to establish and maintain a range of effective internal and external stakeholder relationships and networks An ability to read, understand and interpret complex documents and data, including legislation, statistics, research and analytical reports, scholarly publications, and legal documents Experience working with judiciary and a commitment to further develop your knowledge in Te Reo and Tikanga Mori will be an advantage.
