Ng mhiohio e p ana ki tnei mahi (About this position) Te Whatu Ora Nelson Marlborough (formerly NMDHB) is seeking applications for the exciting role of Pouherenga within our Mori Health Directorate. The role could be based in either Nelson or Blenheim and will have a district-wide focus. The position will provide leadership on matters pertaining to tikanga Mori and will report directly to the Interim GM Maori and Vulnerable Populations and the Group Director Operations - Hospital and Specialist Services.
All applicants must be competent in te reo Mori and have a sound understanding of tikanga Mori, as the appointee will take a leadership role around pwhiri / whakatau at organisational events that connect in with our Mori communities and local marae. The role will also provide bicultural education on Mori values and beliefs to improve the cultural responsiveness of our staff to the Mori community, patients and their whnau accessing hospital related services. Ko wai he kaitono ttika? (Who is an appropriate applicant?) As Pouherenga you will actively support the facilitation of wananga and noho marae for Mori staff development in te reo and tikanga within our organisation.
In many ways this role is the korowai for Mori health and our organisation on matters pertaining to tikanga. You will also work in part with patients and whnau that access our hospital-based services. Having an established understanding and network of our local Mori communities would be an advantage.
This role would suit someone with experience possibly in teaching, or social services, or a health background. The ability to work as a member of a team will be essential. mtou rp (About our team) Te Whatu Ora Nelson Marlborough is the main health provider for the Te Tau Ihu, the top of the south.
