The purpose of National Library is to enrich the cultural and economic life of New Zealand by collecting, preserving and protecting documents and making them accessible long-term in a manner that meets the needs of our users. The Library has New Zealand's largest collection of physical, digitised and born digital documentary heritage and taonga, but a legacy of complicated rights management that support those collections.
The Principal Advisor, Rights Management is responsible for providing expert advice in the management of copyright and related rights and in opening the collections for access, sharing and reuse. They will develop policy, frameworks, practices and processes for the Library's management of rights relating to collections. To be successful in the role you will have: The talent to communicate effectively with wide-ranging audiences to influence decision making and practice.
Strong understanding of rights management in the context of a cultural heritage organisation, including New Zealand copyright law. An understanding and appreciation of the cultural considerations pertaining to the protection and use of taonga Mori and mtauranga Mori. Awareness of international trends and developments in copyright and related rights as they relate to cultural heritage organisations.
