This is a great oppotunity for you to help us make a difference throughout the Southland Region by: Poviding technical advice, support and expertise relating to biosecurity Commission technical reports, research & modelling as required Provide technical analysis and policy advice to Council, Council committees, management and other divisions Our dynamic and energetic biosecurity and biodiversity team plays a key role in delivering Environment Southland's vision for a thriving Southland. Our pest control programmes reach over 2,500 people a year throughout our wonderful region; we need your help to maintain, improve and develop these programmes into the future.

Emphasis is on: Providing biosecurity technical and policy advice and support to the wider team, to assist the Biosecurity & Biodiversity Operations Division to meet its operational and statutory requirements. Predator Free Rakiura Predator Free Rakiura is one of the largest predator eradication projects to be attempted in global history. For the initial period of 12 months 50% of your time will be instrumental in supporting the development of a collaborative biosecurity system for Predator Free Rakiura.

The successful applicant will have: A tertiary qualification (degree level) in an appropriate discipline is required (a post-graduate degree is preferable) A minimum of ten years appropriate working experience. Knowledge of the Biosecurity Act 1993 and its application, experience of working through sections 70 - 77 and/or Sections 88 - 97 is desirable Proven budgetary experience, including preparation, implementation and reporting Project management experience. Ability to communicate information and advice, both oral and written, to the Council staff, the Councillors and the general public Ability to consult, liaise, develop and maintain relationships with Iwi and other key stakeholders within the community as well as to collaborate effectively with other groups within Environment Southland.
