This position represents an excellent opportunity to work in one of New Zealand's most scenic and beautiful regions offering interesting clinical practice with an attractive lifestyle. The position is based in a public hospital radiology department which provides a 24/7 radiology service comprising diagnostic radiology and basic interventional radiology. The consultant radiologists work a combination of daytime shifts and on call duties with some external off site reporting.

The service performs 54,000 - 58,000 examinations per year. The service has 4 general rooms (includes 1 room in the Emergency Department), 2 Toshiba CT scanners, 5 ultrasound machines and a Siemens angiography/fluoroscopy suite. The radiology workload comprises general radiology, ultrasound, MDCT, angiography and a range of interventional procedures.

An on-call component allows the hospital to offer a 24- hour acute service, with overnight reporting provided by teleradiology services. You would join an Interventional Radiology team currently consisting of 4 Interventionalists and the department is staffed by 21 radiologists, 6 Registrars, MITs, administration, orderlies and nurses. The interventional work will include a wide range of Vascular, Oncology and General IR procedures.

All peripheral vascular procedures in the hospital are provided by the Interventional Radiology team and endovascular aortic aneurysm repairs are performed in conjunction with the Vascular service. There is also a range of Interventional Oncology procedures performed including trans-arterial embolisation and percutaneous ablation. You would also contribute to the general radiology component and general out of hours roster with overnight reporting provided by teleradiology services.

The area is well known for its outdoor recreational options including trout fishing, walking tracks, cycling and mountain biking. Lake and river water sports such as boating and kayaking are exceptional. (Outside of the above hours, off site reporting is provided via an external contractor with IANZ or equivalent accreditation for any urgent CT after 2000 hours.)
