Permanent full-time position available based at Motuihe but working across Motutapu and Rangitoto islands as well. Enjoy a diverse role where you will be working across a range of biodiversity, heritage and visitor duties in the Hauraki Gulf.

We do this by: protecting land, species, ecosystems, and cultural heritage for conservation purposes managing threats and adverse impacts being a voice for conservation connecting people to nature.

He angittanga | About the role This is an exciting opportunity to join the Auckland Inner Islands operations team as our full time Ranger. You will be based on Motuihe and expected to travel to and from via ferry or DOC's boat to carry out day to day conservation work on Motuihe. This includes completing biodiversity, heritage and visitor tasks to ensure the upkeep and compliance of amenities of Motuihe.

The position will be focussed on: maintaining track and amenities trapping and weeding work which will see you use spraying, scrub bars and chainsaws working alongside our treaty partners and island stakeholders including concessionaires, schools, researchers, and contractors repairing small machinery and property managing day and campground visitors to the islands which may include illegal landings supporting iwi, Motuihe Trust and community volunteer groups to undertake work on the islands managing island infrastructure and recreational facilities managing and maintaining historic sites. This position is generally rostered on a 10 day on, four days off roster. This position is recognised by the Department as an island posting.

The term of a posting is for an initial period of three years with an option to extend to a maximum of five years by mutual agreement. You will be comfortable working in partnership with a broad range of internal staff and external stakeholders.

We are looking for a responsible and reliable team player who is willing to work flexibly to get the job done. The ideal candidate has the following skills and attributes: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Experience of working with iwi, community groups and volunteers.

A reasonable level of physical fitness. Ability to adhere to strict Health, Safety and Well-being systems. A practical background in general infrastructure maintenance.
