M tnei tranga mahi | About this role The role of the Senior Advisor, National Risk Directorate is to contribute to the design, development and implementation of systems and frameworks that help ensure evidence-based, future-focused decisions on the most significant national security threats and hazard risks facing New Zealand. As part of our team, you will contribute to our annual work programme by: Working with government agencies across the national security and hazard risk sectors to support the assessment, management and governance of nationally significant risks.
Providing advice to Chief Executives (via the National Security Board and the Hazard Risk Board) and to Ministers through written and oral briefings (as directed). Engaging the public and non-government stakeholders (such as iwi, academics, private sector and community organisations), including through public information sharing and communications. Supporting engagement with international partners and connecting with international best practice.

Ko wai koe | About you We select on capability and welcome a wide range of applications where the candidate can demonstrate the following: A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in the field of national security, hazard risk, emergency management and/or other areas relating to resilience; Experience or interest in learning about risk management and governance frameworks; monitoring and assurance programmes in the public or private sector(s); Demonstrated experience in providing quality written reports and presentations to a high standard, with high levels of accuracy, with the ability to present complex information in simple yet engaging ways; Demonstrated critical and strategic thinking skills and experience providing advice in a public sector organisation or demonstrable experience in a relevant field; and Experience in building and maintaining effective relationships with people at all levels of an organisation, both internally and externally.
