M tnei tranga mahi | About this role Senior Data Analyst (12-month fixed term) Are you an experienced data professional who wants to make a difference in the public sector? The Office of the Auditor-General | Te Mana Arotake(the Office) gives New Zealanders an independent view of public sector spending and performance, working to improve trust and confidence in the value of public services. We're looking for a highly skilled and motivated Senior Data Analyst to play a key role in leading data-driven decision-making and innovation across the Office. The Senior Data Analyst will be part of a team that works throughout the Office to generate insights and intelligence from the data and information we hold.

In this role, you'll lead data and analytics projects to better understand the performance of the public sector, using a wide range of methods and techniques to support the Office's data analytics, performance audits, and other projects. You'll build and maintain data assets and look at different ways we can use our data to solve problems, working closely with colleagues and being involved in strategic decision-making and performance improvements. You'll also contribute to enhancing data and analytics capability in your team and throughout the Office, including mentoring other Data Analysts.

We're looking for a creative thinker who can develop innovative solutions while demonstrating a commitment to the quality and integrity of the Office's work. As an excellent communicator, you'll be able to clearly and accurately set out the results of your data analysis, draw evidence-based conclusions, and make practical recommendations. To be successful in this role, you'll have: proven experience in data science, analysis, insight, or ETL roles for analytics; strong proficiency in statistical analysis and data visualisation tools (such as Python, R, SQL, Tableau, Power BI); a demonstrated ability to collect useful information from complicated data; a successful track record in data management and using analytics methods and technology to improve organisational processes; experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams; familiarity with advanced analytics and data science concepts, and a passion for staying abreast of industry trends; strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical findings clearly to stakeholders; and strong self-management and interpersonal skills, and the ability to mentor and develop team members.

Ideally, you'll also have a good knowledge of: accounting, auditing, and assurance principles; the machinery of government; and common data concepts such as text mining, predictive modelling, and machine learning.
