New Zealand's electricity system is unique. The national grid is connected by an HVDC-link between our two main islands, with a large amount of renewable energy generated in the South and a growing load requirement in the North. Over the next 5 years we will more than double the investment to replace existing protection and automation assets, support new generation and load growth, and advance our transition to a renewable energy economy.
About the team Our Operational Engineering Group in the Grid Delivery division provides real-time engineering support and advice for issues on the grid, and engages with the wider business to facilitate improvements in our standard designs and processes. The team works collaboratively to monitor and review the condition, capability, compliance, and performance of transmission protection assets. The Operational Protection and Automation team provides specialist advice to validate the performance of protection during system incidents, confirms the performance of protection during network changes, supports grid operations and maintenance (including working with our Service Providers), and leads the resolution of operational issues that impact protection assets.
