He angittanga: The opportunity An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior librarian for children and youth services to join the Tupu Youth Library team at the tara Library, which serves a vibrant and diverse community.
You will be a role model and coach in providing people-centric and high-quality frontline customer service to children and their wider whnau, with a strong focus on youth engagement to increase participation in library services and resource use. You will facilitate and grow community and partner-led activities that meet the needs of children and youth, and you will be supporting the leadership team in the day-to-day running of the library and providing opportunities to engage the children and youth of tara and the community in the design of new service initiatives, provide leadership in community empowerment for children and youth, and create children and youth programmes. This senior role will also provide exceptional customer service, including educating customers to use a wide range of library and non-library resources and navigating literacy and social vulnerability issues.
Key Responsibilities: Engage under-served parts of the local community to increase participation and use of the library. Have an expert-level understanding of collections, and provide day-to-day leadership with collection management to improve customer experience. Demonstrate leadership behaviours and work to build a strong team identity and culture.
Promote self-service options to enable customers to self-serve confidently on future occasions. Resolve escalated customer issues and complaints and use support mechanisms to confidently diffuse and de-escalate difficult situations. Work collaboratively with teams in a local board area, sharing your skills, knowledge, and experience with customer and community-facing teams across the wider Council family.
Our library/hub is open seven days a week, so we require your flexibility around working hours, including a weekend day.
