In this role you will lead a small team responsible for the organisational narrative, internal communications, reputation and media management. Your focus will be on your team and supporting Environment Southland's profile as a credible, science-based, community organisation. You will be proactive and responsive to emerging topics of interest relating to the council's functions and decision-making responsibilities and able to identify and address what matters.
Environment Southland is the regional council and our office is based in Invercargill, which is both a go-ahead and laid-back city with lots of new developments. It has great schools, parks, sports amenities, a polytechnic, affordable housing, good shopping, and great cafs and pubs. Southland has two national parks - Fiordland and Rakiura Stewart Island as well as the beautiful Catlins on its doorstep.
Holiday getaways; adventure, water- and snow-sport fun are just a drive away - two hours to Queenstown, three to Wanaka and one to the Catlins. Our wider communications team delivers the full range of strategic and tactical communication functions, including managing conventional and digital channels, events, internal communications, external communications/reputation and news media management, engagement, promotions and marketing, and campaign delivery. This is a full-time, permanent position offering an initial remuneration in the range of $93,060-$98,230.
