Whilst there are a wide range of visa options to cover a wide variety of requirements for many their immigration journey will require an offer of employment upon which a work or resident visa will be based, and by now, you are likely finding information about the need for employers to be accredited and the role they play when it comes to hiring you or a member of your family.

Anyone wishing to apply for an employment-based work visa or Residence under the Green List straight to residence pathway must have an offer of employment with an accredited employer.

The employer accreditation is applied for by the employer, is valid for 12-24 months and provides employers the required status to hire migrant workers. Accreditations are granted on the basis that the employer is a genuine and financially sustainable business, has not been subject any sanctions as a consequence of poor workplace practices and undertakes to provide a compliant and inclusive workplace and settlement support for their migrant workers.  For more information about the accreditation you can refer to Employer Accreditation

Once accredited, employers need to have separate approval for each role for which they wish to hire a migrant work. This process is known as the Job Check. Once approved a job check creates a digital token which can be forwarded to the new employee or their adviser, its this token that creates an AEWV specifically for this role. An AEWV can only be applied for using this token. Green List Tier 1 Residence fast-track does not require a job check.

The AEWV can be issued for up to 3 years depending upon the duration of the employment offered. In some cases the work visa comes with work to residence pathway options, in which case the holder may be eligible to apply for residence once they have worked on that visa for 2 years. Work to Residence is available for those working in occupations on the Green-List Tier 2, or have a High Salary role.
