Emirates Team New Zealand is on the lookout for an AI Engineer to join our fast-paced team. As a prominent leader in the marine industry and proud holder of the America's Cup, we take great pride in utilising the latest technologies to stay ahead of the competition both on and off the water. In this exciting role, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing advanced machine learning models that can analyse vast amounts of data collected from both real world and simulator sailing, optimising performance and predicting outcomes.
Communication with sailors to understand their decision-making processes and limitations will also be an important part of this role so sailing knowledge is an advantage but it can be learnt. Responsibilities Design and develop machine learning algorithms tailored for sailing simulations and performance optimisation. Analyse data from various sources, including telemetry data, to drive decision-making.
Develop predictive models to assess and improve the performance of our sailing team during training sessions and racing. Conduct research to stay updated with the latest trends in AI and machine learning applicable to the marine industry. Document processes and methodologies, ensuring knowledge transfer within the team.
Requirements Ideally a Master's or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field with a focus on AI and Machine Learning.
Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or similar. Experience with machine learning frameworks (e.g.
TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn). Familiarity with data analysis and manipulation libraries (e.g.
Pandas, NumPy). Deep understanding of statistical analysis, model validation, and data visualization. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a creative approach to challenges.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility to work irregular hours, including weekends, as required. A passion for sailing is a bonus.
The right to work in New Zealand is preferred, but we will also consider international candidates. Benefits Be part of the only team to have won the America's Cup three times in recent history! A truly unique team which combines sport and technology. Work in an environment with fast paced development on the cutting edge of sailing software and data analysis.
Work with both sailors and design team members, all of whom are driven towards the same goal of defending the America's cup in Naples, Italy, in 2027..
