Te heinga / The opportunity As an Enforcement Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring environmental compliance and upholding the Resource Management Act 1991. In this fixed-term role covering parental leave through to July 2026, you will conduct inspections as a warranted enforcement officer, undertaking enforcement actions when necessary, and guiding compliance staff in best practices. Keeping enforcement procedures aligned with legislative updates, you will assist in training teams, oversee interviews with involved parties, and collaborate with environmental lawyers on prosecution cases.

Your expertise will shape the council's enforcement strategies, ensuring legal consistency and effectiveness in addressing non-compliance. Your ability to assess evidence, develop prosecution strategies, and engage with expert witnesses will be instrumental. You will play a key role in navigating legal complexities, recommending charges, preparing legal submissions, and overseeing enforcement cases.

Your expertise will support council operations, ensuring quality legal advice is readily accessible and enforcement processes align with evolving legislation. He krero mu / About you We are looking for someone who can bring the following skills, knowledge, personal qualities and experience to our diverse team: A tertiary qualification relevant to the purpose of the position, ideally this would be a law degree. Minimum of 3 years knowledge and experience working with the enforcement provisions under the Resource Management Act 1991.

Sound knowledge and experience of the functions of regional councils under the Resource Management Act 1991. Proficient in the use of Microsoft systems e.g.

Word, Excel, Outlook. Ability to handle confidential or controversial information with discretion and professionalism. Ability to cope effectively with enforcement situations.
