This qualification is NZQA approved and provides specialist training for individuals aiming to work as skilled welders.
Graduate Outcomes Upon completion, graduates will be able to: Apply relevant Health and Safety legislation and workplace safety culture. Utilize trade and welding calculations in various tasks. Interpret engineering drawings and understand the properties of engineering metals.
Set up, use, and maintain welding equipment effectively. Perform welding tasks to industry standards, applying distortion control methods. Ensure the quality of their work and make necessary corrections.
Employment Outcomes Graduates will be prepared for roles such as production welder or structural steel welder in various engineering fabrication, steel construction, mechanical engineering, and manufacturing workplaces. This qualification can also lead to supervisory positions and further apprenticeships. Education Pathways This qualification builds on the New Zealand Certificate in Welding (Level 3) and leads to the New Zealand Certificate in Engineering Fabrication (Trade) (Level 4) with strands in Heavy Fabrication, Light Fabrication, and Steel Construction.
Entry Requirements New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident. At least 16 years of age (unless early leaving exemption has been granted). Must hold a relevant position in an engineering or manufacturing organisation.
