We require a Herd Manager for this 1000 cow farm on 400 hectares in the Leeston area. We run a 40 aside herringbone shed with ACRs to manage this large farm. This could suit a couple if the other person would like some part time work.

The school bus stops immediately outside the farm gate with choices of 2 local primary schools a local college and only a 40 minutes drive into Christchurch. You must have 2 years farm experience; a formal qualification would be beneficial. Purpose of the position: Understands and takes responsibility for daily tasks such as running of the dairy, effluent management and feeding.

Completes tasks with minimal supervision and can supervise and train other staff. Looks for opportunities to work more effectively and efficiently to improve the business. Your role includes but not limited too Milking: Understands and implements efficient milking practices and keeps the farm dairy hygienic.

Records health treatments and solves milk quality Animals: Diagnoses common ailments and treats accordingly. Competent in all aspects of calving and reproduction, e.g.

observation, recording and submitted on heat cows Feed: Implements best practice for pasture, crop and supplement management for optimal quality and utilisation. Environment: Understands regulations and management of nutrients, effluent and water and their most efficient use. People: Trains junior employees in simple skills.

Developing communication and reporting skills. Machine, Vehicles and Technology: Safely uses and maintains vehicles on farm as directed by on farm policy. Health, safety and wellbeing: Models a health, safety and wellbeing culture, records accidents and identifies farm hazards and biosecurity issues.

You must be responsible for your actions on this farm its fast paced (system 5) and working as a team is important, but you need to think for yourself. Getting up turning up on time on your allocated roster is essential. Roster is 6 on and 2 off Please include in your CV two referees from your farming career.
