Laboratory Assistant Casual Position Purpose The purpose of this role is to support the operation of the laboratory. This involves ensuring laboratory setups are accurately prepared, samples are collected and processed in accordance with study protocols, contributing to administrative tasks and maintaining stock and equipment. Responsibilities Laboratory Assistant Plan and prepare laboratory setups based on: Electronic tracking (HRFID) system requirements study protocols and NZCR laboratory manual.
sample collection order & time points. scheduled and ad-hoc visits. Manage incoming courier boxes and arrange supplies on storage shelves categorised by study, visits, and expiry dates.
Perform sample collection within NZCR in a timely manner and complete relevant documentation. Record/register samples, deliver laboratory samples to off-site laboratories including Lab Plus or sending/taking samples by taxi to other laboratories, if laboratory is further away than Lab Plus Maintain accurate documentation of sample transit and delivery. Assist with administrative tasks during study start-up, including preparation of folders, label templates and filing.
Manage storage of study supplies & monitor stock levels, facilitating ordering in of additional supplies as required. Perform quality control on all laboratory setups and maintain accurate documentation following good clinical practice (GCP) Assist with other support tasks and related duties, e.g.
unpacking/ shifting kits, as required Quality Maintain compliance with all New Zealand Clinical Research standards, protocols, and regulatory requirements, adhering to Good Clinical Practice (GCP). Regularly evaluates, documents, and refines clinical and operational processes to enhance accuracy, consistency, and overall quality. Assists in training employees in quality standards, policies, and procedures, ensuring all team members understand and implement best practices.
Ensures accuracy, consistency, and currency in all research documentation and reporting, including accurate record-keeping, version control and timely updates. Workplace Health and Safety Champions a culture of health and safety, ensuring preventative measures are in place to minimize risk to team members and participants. Actively identify and report health and safety hazards, accidents, incidents, injuries, and property damage.
Understands and complies with NZCRs Health and Safety policies and procedures. Maintains adherence to all safety standards and processes. Commits to personal health and safety at work.
General Undertaking any other appropriate duties that may be required. Minimum Position Qualifications Tertiary degree, preferably in science-based discipline or planning/working towards such a degree. Knowledge, Skill and Experience Meticulous attention to detail with ability to complete documentation accurately.
Self-motivated, well organised and have the ability to work unsupervised. Able to follow carefully defined processes and work.
