The Network Engineer role in the Southern Cross Cable NOC (SNOC) provides 24x7 shift based front line support for the Southern Cross Cable Network. It requires first level analysis and fault resolution on a variety of telecommunications transmission technologies including Optical and Ethernet Networks, Digital Cross Connects and Data communications. Your efforts will help the SNOC deliver service excellence to the Southern Cross Cable business.

As a consequence, you will be learning and growing in your own career development. WHO YOU REPORT TO You report to the SNOC Team Manager Operations in our 24x7 NOC. WHAT YOURE RESPONSIBLE FOR Perform L1 fault analysis and resolution in support of the Southern Cross Cable Network.

Manage and respond to system, network or customer reported incidents or problems according to agreed procedures and service levels. Initiate escalations for complex fault resolution. Liaise and coordinate with Southern Cross Cable staff and their partners, including vendors and cable station staff.

Assist in the Configuration and Provisioning of new services. Coordinate the delivery of project requirements including software and capacity upgrades. Providing continuous improvement initiatives which contribute to the smooth running of the operations centre.

Conducting routine tasks to deliver service excellence to Southern Cross Cable and their customers. Mentoring and acting as a role model for SNOC staff (in particular new recruits), showing exemplary behaviour and attitude to both the company and your job. Initiate, contribute and listen to team discussions.

WHAT SKILLS & EXPERIENCE YOU NEED Minimum one year of 1st level support experience (such as a NOC or Helpdesk) in Telco or ICT along with a minimum of five years overall Telco industry experience. Relevant backgrounds and qualifications include Radio, Satellite or Optical Transmission Technician or Engineer. Sound knowledge of OTN, SDH/Sonet, DWDM, Ethernet, LAN/WAN and Optical Amplification techniques and standards are essential to this role.

Proven operational and fault-finding skills in telecommunications infrastructure environments and platforms (Transmission and Packet Networks / NMS / Servers / DCN Network). Experience on Submarine Cable Systems (SLTE, Repeaters and PFE) would give you a head start. An understanding of OSS systems and ITIL or similar service management frameworks is highly desirable.

Able to multi-task, prioritise and solve problems based on sound judgement when under pressure. Excellent client-driven communication and documentation skills along with a can-do attitude. SECURITY REQUIREMENTS As a member of the SNOC team you will be required to undertake security clearance screening.
