Fresh Meats NZ is a boutique Napier based Lamb Processing site manufacturing top quality products destined for both domestic and international markets and we are seeking an experienced and dynamic Plant Engineer to oversee and enhance our engineering operations. This pivotal role requires a balance of strategic leadership and hands-on engineering expertise to ensure optimal performance of our facilities. Key Responsibilities: Engineering Coordination & Project Management: Lead and manage engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring timely delivery within budget and scope.

Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor a small team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development. Budget & Accounts Management: Develop and manage budgets for engineering projects and maintenance activities, ensuring cost-effectiveness and financial accountability. Production Collaboration: Act as the primary liaison between the engineering department and production teams to align objectives and enhance operational efficiency.

Hands-On Engineering: Engage directly in engineering tasks, providing technical expertise and support to the team as needed. Compliance & Health and Safety: Ensure all engineering activities comply with industry regulations and company policies, prioritising health and safety, and food safety standards. Contractor Coordination: Manage relationships with external contractors, overseeing their work to ensure alignment with project goals and compliance requirements.

Reliability Maintenance: Implement and oversee maintenance strategies to enhance equipment reliability and minimize downtime. Desired Skills and Qualifications: Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering or a related discipline. Proven experience in engineering service management within a manufacturing or food processing environment.

Strong knowledge of site services and basic engineering principles, with a background as a Fitter Turner being highly advantageous. Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team, with strong communication and interpersonal skills. Analytical mindset with the capability to troubleshoot complex engineering issues effectively.

In-depth understanding of health and safety regulations, with experience implementing compliance initiatives. Proficiency in managing multiple projects simultaneously, with a focus on delivering results within set timelines and budgets.
