K rero m te t ranga | About the role The purpose of this role is to provide software engineering and data science expertise to scientists and researchers.

The role may span fields such as biology, climate, biodiversity, economics, earth sciences, and genomics, helping to transform research code and computational workflows into robust, reproducible, and well-managed solutions. It is grounded in scientific expertise and a passion for supporting others. The role emphasises practical guidance and the adoption of good coding and data management practices, with a focus on applying data science methods - including AI techniques where appropriate.

This position combines scientific knowledge with software development, data science, and research data management best practices to support researchers in achieving their goals efficiently and effectively. This position is permanent, full time, reports to the Manager of eResearch Support within the Data and Digital Team and is based at Manaaki Whenua locations including Lincoln, Auckland, Palmerston North and Wellington. pmanawa | About you You will have a relevant tertiary qualification in computing, data science, or a scientific discipline, with a strong foundation in both scientific thinking and technical problem-solving.

This role may particularly suit those with a research background who have moved into digital and data-intensive work. You will bring at least three years' experience in scientific programming, data analysis, data management, and machine learning or deep learning, along with a solid grasp of statistics and mathematics. You enjoy working collaboratively with researchers, understanding the scientific context of their work, and translating domain needs into digital solutions.
