Tnei tranga - About the Role: We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Data Analyst to join the Markets Domain, leading MBIEs energy modelling work. This role is perfect for someone who is looking to take the next step in their analytics career, leading large and complex analytical projects in the energy sector. In this role, you will use your skills and expertise to lead the delivery of a robust and compelling evidence base to inform key policy decisions in the energy sector.
This will see you managing a complex modelling and analytical work programme, ensuring effective delivery of the Ministrys energy modelling services and leading the ongoing development of the Ministrys core modelling tools. Using your well-developed modelling and analytical skills, you will analyse potential futures of energy supply, demand, and greenhouse emissions. You will also produce analysis and evidence to inform policy development and design, including analysing policy options and monitoring how policies are tracking.
You will work closely with policy teams, translating requirements into effective solutions to provide the evidence they need to inform their advice to Ministers. You will have excellent communication skills and be a natural relationship manager, being comfortable in building relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders within MBIE, across Government, and in the energy sector. Your commitment to innovation and continuous improvement and generating new ideas and ways of doing things will ensure that the Ministrys core modelling tools and methods remain fit-for-purpose to produce impactful insights for decision-makers.
You will have significant experience in econometrics, applied economics, statistics, or data science, including well-developed programming skills in at least one statistical programming language. Experience in the R statistical language is preferred. Knowledge of the energy sector is beneficial.
