Job Description Sisam & Sons is a long-standing, family-owned farming business with deep roots in the Eastern Bay of Plenty. Based just 18km south of Whakatne, the business spans 4,750 hectares, running four dairy units and two sheep and beef operations, alongside commercial forestry. Sisam & Sons is looking for a proven leader to take the reins of its sheep and beef operation which covers 2,000ha grazing and wintering dairy heifers/cows for the four dairy farms, bull / steer finishing, and a maternal ewe flock.
Stock ratios are around 80% beef and 20% sheep. As Sheep & Beef Manager, youll be responsible for delivering the farms annual plan, leading a team and driving performance across stock, pasture, infrastructure, and people. The two sheep and beef blocks include a mix of breeding and finishing country from rolling to steeper hill country.
This is a hands-on leadership role where the successful candidate will lead operations, involving reporting regularly along with the day-to-day while contributing to strategic decision-making with the General Manager and Farm Management Committee. This is an excellent opportunity for a capable and experienced Farm Manager to take on a leadership role with real scope and responsibility. Youll lead operations across multiple blocks, with a strong emphasis on developing people and building a positive team culture.
The role covers the full spectrum of farm management from delivering stock and feed plans that align with seasonal needs to managing budgets, reporting and contributing to annual planning. Youll also be overseeing compliance across health and safety, environment, employment and animal health. Youll also be the face of Sisam & Sons within the rural community, representing the business with professionalism and pride.
The ideal candidate will: Be a genuine people leader who knows how to build a team, coach others to grow their skills and bring everyone together to get the job done. Have hands-on experience and confident in dairy support, beef finishing and a sheep breeding systems. Be a strong in feed planning and pasture management, with good seasonal thinking to hit key targets throughout the year.
Be comfortable with budgets and planning, keeping a close eye on the numbers and make smart, practical decisions. Know their way around farm systems like Resolution or Farmax to help drive performance. Be well-organised, proactive and take pride in a tidy and well set up farming operation.
