Introduction Introduction: Timberlands is a leading Forest Management Company with particular expertise in forest management and operations on a significant scale. Based in Rotorua, Timberlands manage 190,000ha of pine plantations in the Central North Island on behalf of Kaingaroa Timberlands and other clients. Description This role leads the training, development, and mentoring of our silviculture crews to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to perform safely, efficiently, and in line with operational best practices.
Alongside your training duties, you will supervise day-to-day tree crop operations, helping to manage contractor performance, uphold safety standards, and ensure work is completed to a high quality across our managed forests. Key Responsibilities Plan, schedule, and deliver hands-on silviculture training sessions. Evaluate training effectiveness and maintain up-to-date training records.
Supervise silviculture and tree crop operations to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with company standards. Support fire readiness by training personnel and participating in operational fire response when required. Use operational data to monitor performance, set work rates, and maintain accurate plot/stand records.
Ensure all operations meet environmental compliance standards and support FSC or other certification systems. Champion health and safety initiatives, report incidents, and follow through on corrective actions. Contribute to emergency response efforts for events such as windthrow, storm damage, or wildfires.
Participate in continuous improvement projects or initiatives as directed. What Were Looking For We are seeking a team member with a relevant tertiary qualification or an equivalent industry trainer/assessor certification. You will have hands-on experience in training and coaching best-practice tree selection techniques, supported by strong leadership and mentoring abilities.
A passion for developing others is essential. Experience in managing large-scale forestry operations is preferred, as youll be responsible for overseeing contractor performance and ensuring work is delivered to a high standard. To succeed in this role, youll bring a solid understanding of health and safety compliance, along with excellent communication, record-keeping, and problem-solving skills.
