Description Te kwhiringa | The Opportunity The contract with New Zealand Steel is of significant importance to Spotless. New Zealand Steel is the countrys sole producer of flat rolled steel products for the building, construction, manufacturing and agricultural industries. They operate a fully integrated steel mill at Glenbrook, about 60 kilometres south of Auckland.
The contract covers the facilities management of all buildings within this site. Spotless Services has been partnered with New Zealand Steel since 1977, initially providing cleaning services and later securing the Facilities Maintenance Management Services contract in 2006. New Zealand Steel, part of BlueScope Steel, focuses on strengthening its domestic market, reducing reliance on deep-sea exports, and driving manufacturing excellence.
To achieve its goals, NZS aims to be recognised as a world-class manufacturing company with a strong focus on performance, productivity, and product margins. Spotless, through the Emergency Services and Road Safety Team, is responsible for traffic management, emergency preparedness, and access control. The Site Emergency Services Officer ensures road safety standards, manages emergency preparedness, leads incident responses, and oversees investigations in line with NZS policies.
Some of the responsibilities include but not limited to: Support and maintain NZ Steel's Emergency Preparedness, Incident Response, and Road Safety standards. Audit and monitor emergency readiness, road safety, site access, and safety compliance; manage breaches and demerit systems. Lead and coordinate emergency response (ER) drills and exercises, ensuring compliance with legal and company standards.
Deliver training on ER drills, fire fighting, desktop scenarios, and preparedness for plant personnel. Respond to site emergencies and coordinate specialist rescue and firefighting operations and provide assessments and medical support. Lead incident investigations and recommend corrective actions in line with NZS procedures.
Develop and implement proactive programs and participate in risk committees for emergency preparedness & response, gas, fire and hazardous substances. Provide compliance audit reports, maintain emergency plans, review emergency equipment, and manage site access control integrity. Nga pkenga matua | Important Skills Experience in Emergency Preparedness and Response and Fire Service Leadership role is a must At least 10 years of experience in an officer role, performing command and control functions Has Hazardous Substances training.
Experience in gas safety and confined spaces leadership is preferred Trained in incident response, investigation leadership, and first aid. Holds a valid drivers licence and has a clear criminal background. Proficient in Microsoft Office and general computer use.
