About the role | M te t ranga: We are currently seeking Medical Laboratory Pre Analytical Technicians (or Specimen Services Trainee) for Part-time positions, to work in the Specimen Services Department.

This will be 40 hours per fortnight based in our Mt Wellington Laboratory. As an integral member of the Specimen Services team at Awanui Labs, you will: Be required to have a minimum of NCEA Level 3 in Science, Maths and English Perform pre analytical checks on all patient samples, prior to these samples going through to the Core Laboratory for analysis (ie Haematology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology) i.e.

Ensure all samples have full and accurate identification details that match the requisition form Ensure the correct samples were received for the tests requested Ensure the transport conditions were correct (for example: protected from light; transported on ice) Be health & safety focussed, and quality-conscious with a high degree of attention to detail for detecting mismatches and errors, yet competent in dealing with high volumes of work in a precise and timely manner. You must be able to follow Standard Operating Procedures Some duties will require you to stand and walk around for up to 4 hours a day, and to handle multiple packages weighing up to 6 kg.
