Job Description Ok, so you have managed to get through that vital "first job" in structural engineering, the introductions, the first projects, asking the awkward questions, learning the CAD stuff. Well done, seriously. Not everybody gets there.

We know that. You are now more valuable. Why? because the chances are, that you will have lot more idea of what you are looking for than you may have had when stepping out of the university doors.

Civil engineering offers a range of very different flavours and if you know what you like, then now is a great time to double-down on this. (Incidentally, if you don't, my advice is to head for the biggest firm you can find - ask me why later). If your favourite thing is a mix of commercial and residential structural design, then have I got an opportunity for you! We are on the hunt for two, possibly three, design-focused, positively minded and team-oriented Intermediate Structural Design Engineer/s for a special client of ours in Christchurch.

The Company: This really is the "Goldilocks company" - mid-sized, warm, very friendly and human, but with the substantial benefits of years in the industry. They have the breadth of skills, reputation and staff development systems all tuned in. You get to be very much part of a cooperative, friendly design team You will add breadth to your experience and depth to your skill Fascinating projects await you - from unique single storey dwellings to five-storey plus hotel and healthcare structures.

You will be supported individually to achieve your goals and those of the team. You will get to enjoy real flexibility and genuine career growth We have been asked to locate preferably NZ qualified and experienced Intermediate Structural Engineers to join the structural team. So, what are we looking for? Profile: Structural Design Engineer keen on continuing in a design-focused role.

Experience: Two or more years' equivalent design experience on small-medium (ideally NZ) commercial low-rise and/or med-high end residential buildings. - Design to NZ seismic design standards - Design using timber, steel, concrete - hands-on experience with NZ specific conditions Qualifications: A full civil engineering degree from an Washington Accord accredited institution or NZ/Australian University. CAD: Experience with Revit / STAAD Pro would be useful, but if you are proficient with similar (Ansys, ETABS, Tekla, AutoCAD) that's just fine.

Butwhat is really important? 1) A genuine interest in structural design: A love of solving a problem, thinking outside the proverbial hexahedron, getting a thrill from seeing your work being built in front of your eyes, a continuous drive to learn more, do better, use whatever tools to their best, stretch the possible. 2) Attitude: Always learning, exchanging information, contributing to the team, your client, the other people on the project. Identifying and nurturing your own talents and of those around you for a better solution and a better future for all.
