At Archives New Zealand and the National Library, we care for the records, stories, and knowledge that shape who we are as a nation. We collect, protect, and provide appropriate access to everything from government records to treasured taonga, working with communities, libraries, and archives across the motu and beyond to make sure the history and information that matter remain accessible for generations to come.

Lead the Development of Aotearoas Published Heritage E ng mana, e ng reo, e ng karangatanga maha o ng hau e wh, nau mai, haere mai. Greetings to the many authorities, voices, and experts of the world. This is a leadership opportunity for someone who understands the value of collecting today to preserve the voices of tomorrow.

As Team Leader, Acquisition and Legal Deposit, youll oversee the acquisition of published material and the delivery of the Librarys legal deposit responsibilities, ensuring that the documentary heritage of Aotearoa is collected, described, and preserved for future generations. In this role, youll lead a team of librarians to deliver on national collecting strategies, develop and maintain strong relationships with publishers and creators, and provide expert guidance on legal deposit and acquisitions. Youll also work closely with curators, preservation teams and metadata specialists to ensure high-quality, efficient collection workflows across both physical and digital formats.

What were looking for Were keen to hear from experienced professionals with: A strong background in library collection development and acquisitions Proven leadership experience, including managing teams of technical or specialist staff A clear understanding of legal deposit legislation and its application Familiarity with collection budgeting, procurement, licensing and documentation practices Experience building relationships with the publishing sector, GLAM institutions or content creators Strong project management skills and the ability to manage risk and deliver on time An awareness of the impact of Te Tiriti o Waitangi on collecting practice and a commitment to supporting mtauranga Mori An interest in the evolving world of digital publishing and its implications for collecting Youll be someone who combines a love of collections with a clear sense of purpose and the ability to lead through change.
