About the role Were looking for a practical, solutions-focused Water Treatment Technician to join our dedicated Water Treatment team. You'll be responsible for the day-to-day operation, monitoring, and maintenance of our treatment facilitiesincluding the Turitea WTP, an expansive network of artesian bore wells, reservoirs, pumps, two large dams and a mini hydro power station.

This is a critical operational role, ensuring compliance with the New Zealand Drinking Water Standards and helping maintain the citys proud reputation of having some of the best drinking water in New Zealand. The position includes participation in a rostered on-call system to respond to after-hours issues. This is a permanent, full-time role working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, plus on-call responsibilities as rostered.

Your focus in this role will include: Operating and maintaining treatment facilities and related infrastructure. Completing water quality testing and ensuring records meet regulatory standards. Identifying plant or equipment faults and reporting maintenance needs.

Supporting routine and preventive maintenance across the sites. Participating in morning toolbox talks and contributing to team planning. Ensuring all facilities and equipment are maintained to a clean and safe standard.

Uploading daily operating records and laboratory data to Council systems. Responding to emergency call-outs during rostered duty weeks. About you Youll bring a solid foundation in water treatment operations, an eye for detail, and a commitment to health, safety, and environmental best practice.

Youre a team player who enjoys problem-solving and is comfortable working independently when needed. To be successful in this role, youll ideally have: A National Certificate in Water Treatment (or equivalent experience in water treatment/plant maintenance). At least 4 years experience operating and maintaining treatment facilities.

A full, clean New Zealand drivers licence (required). Good written and verbal communication skills. A willingness to be part of the on-call roster and work outside normal hours when needed.

The ability to prioritise, stay organised, and maintain professional standards under pressure. Competency using Microsoft Word, Excel, and other relevant systems. About us Palmerston North (or as we like to call it, Palmy) is a growing, innovative and exciting city.
